Couple of questions to be answered !!

1.Is there any scientific reason for celebrating Babyshower (வளைகாப்பு)?

2.Why is the food cooked by others tastes better than the self cooked one ? :-(

Scientific-a onnum kidayadhu.. The reason could be to make the woman feel 'important' (u know, as the center of attraction) and giving good food to her.

oh... valakaapu daan baby shower aa?

scientific reasons irukkara madhiri theriala.. since traditional valaikaapu wd involve a bit of homam and chanting of mantrams etc, it is being said that the kind of homam pugai & reverberations of the chants will do good for the baby in the womb.

Another reason is that the mom is made to feel good & important, which does a world of good for the morale of the mom to-be.

Also, they'll mix milk and 'n' other ingredients, which are supposedly good for the mom. That would be given during the function.

Idhellam naan indha point-a raise panna podhu kedachcha info. I neither subscribe to this, nor believe them... :P

The 'Valaikaapu' function, in addition to being a 'make-her-feel-special' kind of event, should have been started as an event to announce the pregnancy to all, I guess! As we are always scared of 'evil spirits', I guess, there is homam/pooja etc in our version.
Well, one can understand 'baby shower' but what is this 'wedding shower' (and what is this 'shower')?

being a nosey dude i questioned the priest on every little item in the ceremony.. (not the food items). apart from this thing called "mooku puzhiyaradhu" where they drip something into the lady's nose (some herbal stuff), the rest of it was just a "feel goody" ceremony and a chance for everyone to get together and bless the parents to be. I also got new shirts, dhotis etc. from parents and inlaws alike for being the Aambalai singam that I am.. he he.

Always wanted to know what 'Baby Shower Parties' were all about. Never guessed it was ValaiKaappu coz many Yankees host such parties too.

very simple, namba enna pannirukkom, enna add pannirukkom'nu namakku theriyum. adhukku mela namba adha saptomna. yaanai than thalailiye manna vaari pottukkura madiri :)))

serious'a sollanum'na. ennai vechu edhavadhu panninaale. it makes you feel less hungry than you were before preparing. somehow that ennai vasanai puts me off from eating.
