OOOOOO....

....Tired of eating Bagels and Cereals/waffles for breakfast..Thanks to my Mom for "online cooking classes"..Tried IDLY and DOSA.....maiden attempt by a bachelor..ooravachu, arachu..a good experience..Came out good !!

But what about the side dishes..So tried something Indo-American !!

Weird combinations..but tasted good though !!

IDLY + HOT SALSA + ORANGE MARMALADE
IDLY + PEANUT BUTTER
DOSA + HOT SALSA + COCONUT MIX
DOSA + BUTTER SYRUP (Like McDi's pan cakes)
RASAM RICE + TORTILLA CHIPS
MAGGI + PASTA SAUCE
CURD RICE + CUCUMBER PICKLE (aka Subway toppings)
CHAPPATI = TORTILLA =FAJITA + Baked potatoes or Onion/Bell pepper fry !!

STILL MORE....

Can you share your experiences /anything weird combo but tastes good ??

And any suggestions on how to be a vegetarian/vegan in this country ?

Good fotos Prabhu.. I can correlate them to what I make.. :-)

For all those Idly and Dosa lovers, very simple procedures:

Idly: Buy the Priya Instant mix (3 for 1 $); each packet will give you 13-14 idlis.. Follow the easy instructions about soaking (just 10 mins) and put the dough in the Idly vessel (worth buying from Indian shops; or ask someone to bring from India), after smearing with little oil. (helps in taking out idly easily) Insert the vessel in normal pressure cooker with 1 inch of boiling water and close the lid (no whistle reqd). At high flame/coil temp, heat for 12 mins. Stop, wait till the steam subsides and open the lid.. 6-9 idlis at one shot hot and soft.. If you want more, cook more the same way.. No need to wash the Idly vessel for the second time.. some oil will help :-) Total time: 25 mins for 6-9 idlis.

Dosa : Buy the Priya mix (3 for 2 $); follow the procedure on the back.. Heat the non-stick pan for just a few seconds, then put the dough, spread it evenly and apply oil along the edge and in the middle.. Wait till the edge turns golden or brown.. the dosa would come off the tava by itself (IBH, please note). Turn it around and wait for a minute for the other side to cook..
